RE: Another New Set of Dumb Questions

RE: Towing with 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty diesel

Ours adds about 250# on the front axle of our shortbed.

RE: Thinking of putting tool box in my F450

We had a chest type in the F250 short bed, the top was just a hair under the top edge of the rails, kept having leaks for over a year with it, finally got TSC to swap it out with a low profile over the rail box. Like the previous poster said, you have more box space with the chest than the low profile, but I like the low profile better as I can slide items under it when I have something to haul, for example 8' landscape timbers. I have about 8" clearance, so the low profile has worked well.

RE: Extended Warranties

Consumer Reports did all the work on researching this subject. Save your money. IMHO, Consumer Reports is not always right, take input from them with a grain of salt....

RE: Extended Warranties

We opted for a 7 year on the FW for < $100 per year- if we don't use it we should get our money back- FWIW, we have 2 brand new LCD HD televisions as a result of having extended warranties... the 1st was the 17" we bought in Nov, 2005 for the FW bedroom which stopped playing DVD's in June 2008. Circuit City refunded the full purchase price, and we were able to get a 19" LCD with DVD player with 720p HD, plus another extended warranty with money left over to boot. the 2nd was the 26" LCD we bought in Nov 2006 for the FW living room, and when we couldn't get the HDMI port to work, Best Buy refunded the total purchase price for that- we ended up getting a 32" 720p that fit in the same area as the old 26", we had to pay another $130 for the upgrade, but it was worth it. We've had our dishwasher and refrigerator in the stick home serviced under extended warranties as well. We bought the Champion at TSC just so we could get the extended warranty... So, we're a fan of extended warranties- To each their own...

RE: Eternabond as preventive maintenance?

Great work Larry- I like the chopstick thought, I've been using clothes pins (wooden) in a similar manner. When I wax the truck, I'll pull apart a clothes pin and use the end with the rag to help me wax the detail areas, works good.

RE: Switch it up,,,good exp. with Chinese Tires

We had good experience with the Milestars on our FW, until the manufacture recalled them- we had towed 1,706 miles on them. We now have 4,069 miles on the replacements, Michelin XPS Ribs....

RE: Michelin or B.F. Goodrich tires for travel trailer

Hmmm, I have the LTX M/S on the truck, and the Ribs on the trailer. I didn't consider putting the LTX M/S on the trailer, as I was thinking that it wouldn't be a good idea due to sidewall strength.... Maybe I'm off base with that thought...

RE: Feedback wanted on RVdirect.com

As davelinde stated, you do not pick up the unit *at* the factory, but at the dealer coordinated place where the unit is prepped and ready for you. It was located in an enclosed facility. Also, service is not a problem for us, the local RV dealer said they would gladly service it.

RE: Feedback wanted on RVdirect.com

We have been happy with our purchase from RV Direct, well worth the trip to pick up the unit in Elkhart, Indiana, everything went exactly as stated.

RE: 2008 Keystone Challenger 33DBB

We've been happy with our Keystone- other than the tires. At least they recalled them, and gave us $ on them which allowed us to get what we wanted.

RE: Next camping trip

Only 19 here... Planning local trips (21 miles from home to the campgrounds at the lake (Thurmond)) each month- leave after work on Friday, come home Sunday. One of the benefits of being in Georgia. Now, if they could get some more water in that lake...

RE: Gas Avilablility in GA

A lot of stations are out here in the Augusta, GA area. It seems that a station will have gas for one day and not the next depending on tanker deliveries. Diesel has been rock solid and available at just over $4 a gallon, it's nice to have a diesel truck right now.

RE: $65 Hitch Packer at TSC

You are correct about the bumper- the spare tire came mounted on the bumper, and when I upgraded from 15" Milestars to 16" Michelin XPS Ribs, I put the new spare there as well, but kept it there for only about 50 miles- checked it on the 1st stretch break only to find the rubber end caps working their way out of the bumper ends due to the flexing of the square bumper. Took the spare off and it's currently in the back of the truck now. Yes, going to weld to the frame 3 each 2" receiver tubes, as well as beefing up the current bumper to again support the spare tire. I'll take some pictures as things progress.

$65 Hitch Packer at TSC

Don't know if this is a good place to post this, mods please move as needed. Just bought a Hitch Packer from TSC. Going to mount it on the rear of the FW. I think I'm going to make it a triple receiver unit, I would like the extra support just in case. Made in the USA, single piece, and a decent price to boot. Going to get a custom welder to fabricate any changes needed and to mount to the FW 3 receiver tubes. Anyhow, just though I'd share what I see as a decent cargo carrier.
